The Mediterranean Plant Conservation Unit of CIHEAM – MAICh, Coordinator of the ECOPLANTMED project, is organising an event in order to inform about the project and the importance of using native plants in landscaping (parks, gardens, etc.) and environmental restoration.
There will be an initial presentation of the “Manual for the propagation of plant species of the Mediterranean flora” and the “Guide of good restoration practices for Mediterranean habitats”, two ECOPLANTMED editions that will soon be completed and will be useful tools for the plant production sector (public and private nurseries), landscape architects, and other stakeholders involved in landscaping and restoration works.
Plant species of the Cretan flora that have been selected to be included in the Manual, and the role of the Seed Bank of CIHEAM – MAICh for the conservation and valorisation of the Cretan flora will be presented.
The Forest Directorate of Chania, associate partner of ECOPLANTMED, will present the activities of the Forest Nursery of Chania as well as the current situation for plant material used in restoration actions.
The event will end with a discussion about collaborative actions and the valorisation of ECOPLANTMED results in order to promote the use and production of native flora plant material.
The event will take place in the “Aristotle” Hall of the Conference Centre of CIHEAM – MAICh, 10:00-13:00 (language used will be Greek). See the programme (in Greek) of the event here.
