- The 3rd Steering Committee meeting of the project took place in Tunis, Tunisia, 25 - 27 November 2014. The meeting was organised by the National Research Institute for Rural Engineering, Water and Forestry (INRGREF), ECOPLANTMED partner in Tunisia.
Two days were devoted to discussing the implementation and the progress of the project activities. The project partners from Greece, Italy Lebanon, and Spain had the opportunity to visit the INRGREF facilities, and see the seed collections made and the progress of the works for the creation of the new seed bank on their premises.Group photo of ECOPLANTMED team at INRGREF
2nd day of discussions
The 3rd day was devoted to a field trip in the Nefza region where the 7 ha project pilot site for ecological habitat restoration is located. The trip started with a meeting at the Regional Forest Service of Nefza and a presentation from the local forest authorities about conservation actions that had been implemented in the region. A guided tour all around the region followed and the project partners had the opportunity to see the Bellif cork oak forest, meet local people from the local agriculture development groups, see the Sidi El Barrak dam and the Zouaraa beach sand dunes, and finally the project pilot site in Msid, Nefza. At the pilot site there were constructive discussions about the restoration action to be implemented, as well as related discussions with local shepherds.Presentation of conservation actions at the Regional Forest Service of Nefza
