ECOPLANTMED 4th Steering Committee meeting, Cagliari, 9-11 June 2015
Summary
The 4th project meeting was hosted by the University of Cagliari - Centre for Conservation of Biodiversity (UNICA-CCB) in Cagliari, Sardinia, on the premises of the University Botanical Gardens. Project partners discussed the progress of ECOPLANTMED activities, and had the opportunity to discuss technical aspects of the project implementation with Officers of the Joint Technical Secretariat of the ENPI CBC Med Programme. The progress of the ECOPLANTMED International Conference to be held in Beirut on 14 to 16 October 2015, the Manual for the propagation of native plant species, the Guide of good restoration practices for Mediterranean habitats, and the pilot restoration actions in Lebanon and Tunisia were the main activities in progress that were discussed.

The two Associate ECOPLANTMED partners in Cagliari (Province of Cagliari and Natural Regional Park Molentargius Saline) and the Sardinian Forest Agency, who are in close collaboration with UNICA-CCB, were also invited to the meeting in order  to meet the other ECOPLANTMED partners and inform them about their activities and projects on restoration and conservation.

During the first two days of the meeting project partners had the opportunity to visit the Botanical Gardens and the Sardinian Germplasm Bank, which was a good opportunity for exchange of knowledge and experiences. On the third day, partners visited the Natural Regional Park Molentargius Saline where a successful long-term restoration project was taking place, the Bagantinus nursery of the Sardinia Forest Agency where several native shrubs have started to be produced in cooperation with UNICA-CCB, the Fanebas springs, Foresta di Is Cannoneris, and the sand dunes of Porto Campana which is one of the areas restored through the recent LIFE project PROVIDUNE.
