Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Environment, Climate Change and Rural Development - Centre for Forest Applied Research

The Centre for Applied Forest Research (CIEF) of the Valencian Region was created in 2005 to boost research and innovation on forest and wild flora conservation.

The CIEF was established on the basis of the seed bank, which was created in 1994 to support an ambitious reforestation plan drafted after a period of huge forest fires. In the course of time, three new departments were incorporated: the monumental trees unit, the unit for threatened flora conservation and the forest pests unit. Nowadays, the CIEF facilities include over 10 hectares with workrooms for fruit processing, cold storage rooms for seed conservation, labs for trials and testing, orchards for the conservation of living plant collections and nurseries.

The CIEF has a long experience of participation in regional, national and European level projects. Some of the main projects developed are: Genmedoc, Semclimed, Ripidurable, GreenInfraNet and LIFE+ Renaix el Bosc. The CIEF led the creation of the Network of Mediterranean plant conservation centres “Genmeda”.
